It gives me immense pleasure to mention few notable
things about Chilarai College. At the beginning I sincerely offer my
heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the founder members as well as those noble
personalities who had the vision, dream and the commitment to set up an
institution for higher education in an extremely backward locality of
Western Assam. |

Our college established in the year 1973 and named after the 16th Century's greatest warrior, poet and scholar Mahabir Chilarai of Koch Kingdom. Chilarai College has been a potential force of social engineering, of empowering the society and economically backward communities like OBC's and MOBC's and of spreading the light of the learning among the deprived lot. Initially the College had 9(nine) Departments and was essentially a college of Arts Stream. The College came under the deficit grant-in-aid system in1987 (now provincialised). In 1997 the College celebrated its Silver Jubilee with a National Level Seminar inviting faculties from several universities of North-East and West Bengal. The College was enlisted under the UGC Act of 2(f) and 12(b) in the year of 2000 and since then the College is receiving financial assistant from UGC on a regular basis for several developmental works of the College. In the year 2004 Chilarai College has been assessed and accreditated by NAAC, Bangalore with a "B" Grade and our institution bagged highest aggregate points in the district of Dhubri, Assam. In the post-NAAC assessment period the College has opened Three new subjects for the students viz. Sanskrit, Mathematics and Travel & Tourism Management. With limited infrastructure facility the College is offering basic Computer Education to the aspiring students of the College. The College is offering Major Courses for all the subjects. Each department has got an average of two full time lecturers. Thanks to the management body and local participants, the College is employing at least 2-3 part-time teachers every year to run the courses. The academic atmosphere of the College is extremely healthy. Sixty to seventy percentage of teachers are engaged in research works on a regular basis either for doctoral works or for post doctoral works. Five to six teachers are working on UGC MRP grants. The Students'-Teachers' relationship is extremely good. Student's participation in to Teaching-learning process is highly encouraging. Most of the departments are bringing out separate wall magazine, where mostly students exercise their creative ability. The College also bring out an annual Magazine called "The Chilarian" which is a major annual event. The College has central Library named after the founder President Late Bhuban Chandra Prodhani which is partially computerized at present. The process of computerization will be over within 2-3 months. The college has almost completed two decades and has a number of new projects in its pipelines. We have the plan of introducing science/commerce stream, several job-oriented vocational courses and modernizing the entire set up. I am sure, we shall be successful. It demands a lot of commitments, hard works and sincerity. We shall not rest, we shall keep on thriving and striving in order to transform this institution of higher education to a potential centre of excellence and learning. Santosh Kr. Sarkar
