Chilarai College was established in the year 1973 on 26th January. The Assamese Department of the College also has been established in the same date along with other department of the College. The Department of Bengali was established in the year 1973. At the very beginning the department was run by a band of honorarium teachers. Department of Economics

Chilarai College was established in 1973 and at that time the department of Economics was also opened for H. S. and B. A. class. The College came under deficit grant in aid system in the year 1987. At the very beginning there was no major course in B. A. classes. Major course for U. G. class was offered from 1st August 1992. At that time there was only two full time lecturers in the department. Department of Education

 Chilarai College was established in the year 1973 on 26th January. The Education Department  also has been established in the same year along with other departments of the College. The objective of the department is to start "Woman Education Awareness Club" constitute of female students and teachers of the department to create woman education awareness. The department will work together with "Sarbo Siksha Abhijan" to eradicate illiteracy in and around the locality. It has the vision to hold a National or State level seminar once in a year in order to update the faculty members and the students of the department. More...

With the establishment of Chilarai College in 1973 English as a compulsory subject was offered both at UG and Higher Secondary level . The department with two full-time faculty teachers along with three part time teachers ventured to offer major courses in English in the year 1997. Department of History

The mission and vision of History is to infuse the sense of knowledge into the minds of the students about the evolution of mankind, its rises and falls, its success and failures, its mistakes and merits, its obstacles and the ways of overcoming them. Study of history makes us rational and impartial. The main mission of this department is to make history popular as a subject amongst the students of all level. On the other hand, the main objectives of the department are to impart historical knowledge and sense among the students. Having clear knowledge, the students are expected to develop themselves physically, mentally as well as intellectually. Department of Philosophy

The department of Philosophy was opened with the beginning of the College. The department opened the Major Course in 1992. At the very beginning the department was run by one Tutorial Teacher Mr. Nripendra Nath Roy. Department of Political Science

The Department of Political Science was opened in 1973, the same year the college was established. Department had started major course in the year 1988. It has also Gauhati University and Govt. concurrence for the course. From the very inception of this department it had to face a dire crisis of faculty as it is a rural college.  Mathematics

Mathematics was introduced in the college in 2006. It was introduced as a subject, not as a department. It is being offered to the Three Years Degree students in the year 2007. Mr. Joydip Roy is the only teaching member of the subject.

 

Sanskrit

Sanskrit is one of the newly introduced subjects of the college. It was first introduced in the year 2006 for the T. D.C. students only. Later on it is made available for H. S. students in the year 2007. Mr. Parameswar Roy and Mr. Mrinal Kanti Roy Sarkar are the teaching members of the subject.
