The Department of Bengali was established in the year 1973. At the very beginning the department was run by a band of honorarium teachers. The following teachers served the department from time to time till 1993. They are Sikha Sengupta, Aparna Saha, Bhupen Ray, Tapati Saha, Mahesh Sinha & Ira Ray.

Lecturer S. P. Barman is the existing Head of the Dept. since 1993. The Department is run by some part time teachers arranged by college authority. 

Department has a vision to provide quality education to the marginalised section of students to cope with national level. 

• Department will conduct a national level seminar at an early date.
• Department will develop infrastructure to cover the needs of students.
• Department will try at its best to develop Music & Drama.

The department notifies for the Major three days after the commencement of class. A test is conducted for it. The minimum marks for Major is 40% in concerned subject in Higher Secondary Level. Selected candidates are asked to get their major admission.

• Sri  Jayanta Ray passed M. A. in Bengali with norms from Gauhati University and he is existing part time lecturer of the department.

• Sri Manoj Kanti Nath, Sri Ajoy Karmakar, Smti Mamoni Sutradhar and Sampa Talukdar pass out from the department with Honours.

• Many students of our department are studying at different Universities of India.

• Many students from our department has joined various post of State & Central Govt. Services.
