Profile

With the establishment of Chilarai College in 1973 English as a compulsory subject was offered both as UG and Higher Secondary level . The department with two fulltime faculty teachers along with three part time teachers ventured to offer major courses in English in the year 1997. Since then major courses in English have been running on a regular basis in the College.

The two fulltime teachers of the department have successfully completed their Ph. D works and have produced substantial research papers both in National and International forums. They have also made noteworthy publications as a follow up measures of their respective doctoral works. The teachers of the department are closely associated with several National and Regional academic bodies, such as IACIS, Hyderabad, AIETA, New Delhi, FTC, Baroda, North-East Writers Forum, Guwahati.

The department is well equipped with a separate chamber, department library with 30 to 40 useful reference books and few journals and a separate major class room with basic amenities.

The department has the plan to have a Language Laboratory of its own in the near future so that, that facility can be used to offer courses  on Spoken English and to strengthen the over all English Speaking competence of general students of our College.
