The Department of Political Science was opened in 1973, the same year the college was established. Department had started major course in the year 1988. It has also GU and Govt. concurrence for the course. From the very inception of this department it had to face a dire crisis of faculty as it is a rural college. A band of teachers served as lecturer in our department with their utmost dedication from time to time. They are Abas Ali, M. A., Abdul Hussain, M. A., Nagen Chandra Roy, M. A., Hemanta Sarma, M. A., Sonwar Hussain, M. A. ,Sudharshan Roy, M. A., Binod Chandra Karmakar, M. A. (Retd. Principal of Rokakhata H. S. School) and Biren Chandra Roy Prodahni (Retd.). The Department has now full time lecturers with other three part time lecturers managed by college authority. The Department is now going ahead with its resource faculties to achieve its objectives.

Department of Political Science keeps the limit of seats up to 20 candidates per class. A candidate having 40% in the H. S. Final Examination in the concern subject may apply for major course in degree. A notice is served mentioning date and time of submission of application and major test. Department has its sole discretion on selection of the candidates. The enlisted candidates are asked to get their admission at the payment of Rs. 120.00 (one hundred twenty) only at the college office.

• 48 students from the department have completed B. A. with Political Science honours.

• 14 students  have completed M. A. in History from different universities.

• 3 students are doing PG in different universities.

• 5  students of our department are serving as lecturers in different colleges of Assam.

• Two  students of our department has been serving as lecturer in this College (part time).

• Till date 4 students of our department have got 1st class in M. A. from different universities.

• One student from the department has recently completed his Ph. D. under Gauhati University.

• One student of the department has been doing M. Phil.

• One student has registered his name for Ph. D.

• 8 students passed out from the department have been appointed as school teachers in Assam and Meghalaya.

• 5 students from the department have been appointed to different Govt. Posts in Assam.

• 3  students from the department have been appointed to the Indian Army and B. S. F.

• 4 students of the department have been appointed to Assam Police.
