History  
 

The library of Chilarai College came into existence just after the establishment of the college in 1973, which was confined to one single Almirah of the office room, Sjt. Nickil Ch. Saha was acting Librarian at that time and later Sjt. Sibendra Ch. Sarkar took charge of the library and continued till 1997 and by this time library was shifted to a separate room. In 2002 library was shifted to present building which was inaugurated by Sjt. Pankaj Borah, the then Education Minister, Assam.

Vision  
 

The vision is to provide the best thought of the subject concern, acquiring all classics and standard works of eminent authors to make the library a market place of best ideas and an intellectual service station where students and teachers community get types of knowledge, which will encourage proper use of valuable time creating reading habits.

Maintenance    
 

Bhuban Ch. Prodhani Library is maintained by one professional and two non-professional staff manually. Documents are classified according to Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). The library has Reading Room and Circulation Section, it introduced Reference Book bank, Rajbanshi section in limited manner. Membership of library is open for students and staff of the college, library follow Browne issue system.

 
     
Basic Rules & Regulations  
     
Admission to Library  
 
  • All regular students, teachers and staff are allowed to enter the library.

  • Every person, who enters the library shall have to sign the Gate Register mentioning Department/Class, Roll No., time etc.

  • No student without the permission of the Librarian or his assistant can enter inside the stock room.

  • All personal belongings shall not be allowed to be carried inside the stock room/shelve area.

  • The readers shall have to keep silence within the library premises.

 
Borrowers, Their Privileges & Obligations  
 
  • Borrowers are responsible for any kind of loss, damage of book and will have to replace such documents.

  • Readers Card for HS students and Readers Ticket for Degree students are issued and books are issued against such cards and tickets.

  • Books are issued initially for a period of 15 days only and books may be renewed after initial period.

  • Reference, FULO Books, Periodicals are not issued to users.

  • Readers ticket are not transferable and users should report the Librarian immediately for loss or damage of the ticket.

  • Librarian may withdraw any book from circulation and call back any book from users.

  • In all other matters, the Librarian shall have the power to take such decision as he may deem fit.

  • The Library rules may be amended and altered as and when necessary.

 
Collection  
  The collection of BCP Library mainly consist of  
Text Book  
 

Text books are acquired as per syllabus of Assam HS Council, Guwahati and Gauhati University respectively for Higher Secondary classes and under graduate/Graduate Courses of Arts Stream. Total number of text book is 6458.

 
   

Reference Collection  
 

The library have a valuable reference collection for all its subjects of study, besides this it has a good general reference collection like Dictionaries of different categories, year books, Encyclopedias, etc. Total number of reference book is 2174

 
Journals/Magazines
 

BCP Library has a good collection of Periodicals, besides News Papers, Popular Journals, it subscribes the following journals-

  • Journal of Contemporary Thought.

  • University News.

  • College News.
